food for thought

Night Spade:
When I think of the "Nanny State", I think of places like Singapore where they have a LAW for EVERYTHING and pretty much tell you how you should live your life.
Sam the Eagle:
I wonder on what ground you base this statement.
Can't say I lived in the place, just passed by now and then in the last 4 years. As far as telling you how to live your life, compared to surrounding countries, mostly thinking of Malaysia or Indonesia even Indochina countries which I know better, your view sounds odd to me.
Granted the place is tame, compared to others nearby. Really really tame.
It's quite possible this so-called Nanny States do not exist at all. Pointing finger at "the other nation's failings to uplift our image under my command" is an age-old politician parlour trick happening everywhere.
Even socialist countries gives one quite some leeway in your daily life as long as you acknowledge "Party" supremacy. But is that really different from the "King is beyond any form of criticism" that exist in Thailand?.
...
Or US during the McCarthy era??.
