Doctor Zero
I don't have a way to scan any of this character for my "favorite male character" right now. But for a long time, he was both my favorite superhero & my favorite supervillain. Nope, not a multiple personality. Just sort of both at the same time; it was a matter of perception.
Doctor Zero, from The Shadowline Saga (Epic Comics, about twenty years ago).
This is what I've found online that hints (barely) at the coolness of the character.

Dr. Zero (real name unknown) was a centuries-old energy-stealing, mind-wiping, telekinetic, Swiss army knife superhuman who decided to invent a superheroic identity so he could stop the mere humans from splitting the planet in half with nukes. He was hated as the devil by his cousins, fellow superhumans who lived in the shadows; he came to be seen as a god by humans.
Sort of a near-sociopath for good. He refused to let the planet be blown up while he was on it.
