Hair, hair, good hair
I got the gist of Chris Rock's Good Hair in a talk show appearance when he was promoting the movie. But over 96 minutes, it gets kind of disturbing.
Like all the Hindus going to donate their hair to their god as a religious devotion, & the temple then selling it to exporters who make weaves from it. That's not wrong, exactly, it raises money for the temple; but it's sneaky.
But hey, if that wasn't creepy enough, yesterday I watched a 2009 Tyra Banks ep on "good hair." Oh good lord.
All these black ladies trying to have white hair, & I get it. I like my flowy hair. But I feel like you're missing the point. Black girls going through all this are like if white girls went to ridiculous lengths to make their hair all kinky. And saying that, I think some people just don't get it.
So let me put it this way. Any black ladies trying to have long straight hair are doing it for themselves, not for the dominant culture. White people think you look silly with fake hair. We're sitting over here wondering where all the Afros went.
