bad & good
I think perhaps Cry for Justice needs to be retconned as an Elseworlds. (Or, y’know, just a mistake.) Here’s my thinking:
1) Roy Harper with one arm is just too much temptation to super-hero writers to give him a "SUPER!" cyborg arm with ridiculous Astro Boy gadgets (while renaming him Arsenal again). Since this takes away a cool low-powered hero in favor of something from a giant robot comic, DC should nip it in the bud.
2) Killing off Lian is not only a temptation to de-age Roy (much like killing off Donna’s kids in Wonder Woman was a way to de-age her) but it takes away our beloved young single father character in favor of someone who’s really going to turn into a white version of Cyborg (see reason 1). Boring boring.
3) Prometheus's little temporary black holes are "immune to Hawkman’s mace." They’re immune to Hawkman’s mace. They're immune to Hawkman’s mace. Clearly we've gone over to low camp. Lose points for stupid.

Weingrad is asking the wrong question if he wants a one-to-one transposal of the Christian [C.S.] Lewis to Jewish creators, who are less likely to create direct parables because an impulse to convert doesn’t exist in Judaism, but questions of justice, power and responsibility — stuff that concerns Jews, I hear — are central to the Marvel Universe.
